In 2011-2015 American Community Survey, Rio Communities mean family income was $57,335 per year. Rio Communities has a large retirement population and is an increasing destination city for young families, because of very reasonably priced housing and easy commuting times.

The number 1 EDUCATION, TRAINING & SKILLS

Rio Communities has one school (La Merced – grades Pre-Kinder garden &K-6, 5 minutes from City Center) that is within the city limits. The city is part of the Belen Consolidated School District. Students for grades 7-12 attend schools in Belen and Los Lunas to complete their early education. The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a community college founded in 1979 to serve Valencia County and Northern Socorro County. UNM-Valencia Campus is a branch of the University of New Mexico and has an elected Advisory Board. It serves the post-secondary educational needs of our citizens as well as a cultural center for our community. Central New Mexico Community College is located in Albuquerque, NM. Full-time enrollment: 19,398. Their vision – “Changing Lives, Building Community” – remains the same as it has been since 2008. It’s their Vision, and their motivation.

Libraries:

1) Belen Public Library– a modern general purpose library.

2) Rio Communities Little Library– Drive up small book exchange library. Open 24 hours a day.

3) UNM-VC Library- A college library that offers research into a variety of ares. Good Library

The number 2WELLNESS COUNCIL

Rio Communities Wellness Council works cooperatively to serve as a resource to inspire, inform and support the health and well-be- ing of all residents. The Council is composed of dedicated community members and representatives of local business. In keeping with the vision of this council, they put on two health and wellness fairs for this community and surrounding areas. The Family Wellness Fair is held the third Saturday in April.
