HISTORY: Rio Communities voted to incorporate in January 2013. Economic Development Volunteers started attempts to promote economic development within the area soon after incorporation. They did the first survey in efforts to learn the types of businesses that residents wanted to add to the community and get a sense of the priorities involved. Rio Communities established an official Economic Development Commission in May 2015. This committee’s focus was to establish priorities for the economic development of the city. Overall priorities have been established through the Comprehensive Plan and ICIP programs. Enacting and directing these priorities was the primary focus for the commission. Their first 4 projects are putting together a beautification program for Highway 47, developing a new online webpage that focuses on Economic Development Issues, putting together a comprehensive working LEDA program and surveying existing local businesses to establish their needs. All 4 programs are progressing well, some nearing completion.
